Millican’s Confidence Level High Headed To U.S. Nationals With New Sponsor on Board

McLeansboro, IL (August 29, 2017) – Clay Millican’s confidence level could not be higher headed into the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals this weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. He clinched a spot in the Countdown, he is qualified for the Traxxas Shootout, he holds the track record for Top Fuel elapsed time, and a new sponsor joins the team.

A new associate sponsor riding along on the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals is Seefried Ranch. Seefried Ranch is a family owned and operated working cattle ranch high up in the mountains in Mackay, Idaho.

“We are huge race fans and we really identify with Clay. He is hard-working, exemplifies the independent spirit and is extremely positive. We were so thrilled when he won this spring,” said ranch owner Holly Seefried. “Another reason why we wanted to get involved with Stringer Performance is that we love NHRA and how it’s very family oriented; everyone helps each other.”

Currently, Millican is seventh in the Countdown to the Championship, but all of that could change before the race weekend is over. This is the last event to make the Countdown and points will be worth 1.5 at the U.S. Nationals. There are also five qualifying sessions, giving him five chances to gain bonus points.

“Our goal from the beginning of the season has been to be in the top five entering the Countdown. That goal is still attainable and we plan to achieve it before leaving Indianapolis on Monday,” Millican said. “We had the car to beat in Brainerd and we want to keep that momentum going at the U.S. Nationals.”

During the most recent NHRA race, Millican made the two quickest passes during eliminations in the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio dragster. He wants to keep this streak going headed into this weekend. Millican currently holds the Lucas Oil Raceway E.T. record for Top Fuel at 3.692 seconds. This is a record he doesn’t see lasting much longer.

“With the right weather and track conditions, that record won’t hold past Friday night. We run at night so it should be nice and cool. I hope it’s our team who resets the record,” Millican confessed.

This weekend is also the Traxxas Shootout which offers a $100,000 prize to the winner in both Top Fuel and Nitro Funny Car. To get into this bonus race, seven drivers claimed a spot by winning an NHRA race and an eighth driver is voted in by fans and a lottery system. Millican obtained his spot when he took home his first NHRA Wally in Bristol this past July.

“It feels good going into the week knowing I am already qualified for the Traxxas Shootout and not having to worry about getting in through the lottery system. That is a first for me. Instead of spending the last two weeks campaigning for votes, I was able to use that time visiting high schools, talking to teens about the importance of safe driving and promoting the B.R.A.K.E.S Program coming to Memphis,” Millican said.

Millican Makes Record Setting Runs in Brainerd

Brainerd, MN (August 20, 2017) – Clay Millican and the Stringer Performance crew laid down two record setting runs at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. Millican posted the second and third fastest runs in NHRA Top Fuel History in the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio.

Millican came into race day qualified No. 5 with an elapsed time of 3.706 at 324.12 mph. In Round One, Millican raced No. 12 qualifier Chris Karamasines. With a track temperature of 88 degrees Millican made the second quickest run in NHRA Top Fuel history with a time of 3.655 at 330.23 mph and took the win. In Round Two, Millican came up against Tony Schumacher and the track heated up to 96 degrees. Millican ended up making the third quickest run in Top Fuel history at 3.658 at 330.47 mph.

In the semifinals, Millican came up against Leah Pritchett. Pritchett set the national record on Friday night with a 3.640/331.53. It was a close race off the start, but a parts malfunction slowed down the Parts Plus/Great Clips/UNOH dragster and Pritchett took the win: 3.666/330.88 to 3.792/263.00.

“We had the car to beat. Hands down, we had the best car here during eliminations,” Millican said. “During the semifinals against Leah it was about to be the quickest side by side run in history, but unfortunately we had a parts breakage.”

Millican leaves Brainerd No. 7 in points heading into the Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend. At that race, all points earned are worth 1.5. This is vital, as it is the last race before the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.

“We’ve got one awesome race car. Grubby (crew chief David Grubnic) has been working on a set up for the last few months. He’s been tinkering with it here and there and we brought it out this weekend,” Millican said. “We’re getting ready for the Countdown and I think our performance this weekend was a big step in the right direction.”

Millican Wants To Win His Next Wally At Sponsor’s Home Race

McLeansboro, IL (August 17, 2017) – This weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals Clay Millican will have a larger than normal cheering section. The race in Brainerd, Minnesota is the home race for primary sponsor, Great Clips.

“I always enjoy racing in front of our friends at Great Clips,” Millican said. “I want to do my best to impress them and I would love for my next Wally to come here where they can join me in the Winner’s Circle.”

Millican has had done well at Brainerd International Raceway in the past. He was No. 1 qualifier and went to the final round in 2013.

“That same year in Brainerd I actually won a celebrity off-road race held at the track,” Millican said. “I love to drive off-road and it was such a fun event.”

While the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series had this past week off, Millican did not slow down. He spent the past week visiting high school students to talk about the importance of safe driving and the B.R.A.K.E.S. school being held in Memphis September 9. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe)

“Just yesterday I spoke to 1,000 students about what they can do to be safe on the road,” Millican said. “This is a cause very close to me and I want to do whatever I can to help families and teens.”

Millican Finishes Western Swing with Semifinal Finish in Seattle

Seattle, WA (August 6, 2017) – After a disappointing race last weekend, Clay Millican bounced back this week at the Northwest Nationals in Seattle. Millican drove the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster to a semifinals finish in Seattle.

Millican came into race day qualified No. 4 with an elapsed time 3.766 at 318.39 mph. He took on No. 13 qualified Scott Palmer in Round One. Palmer had a very slight reaction time advantage, but Millican took the win 3.765/322.11 to 3.845/323.12. This 3.76 run, once again proved the consistency of the Parts Plus/Great Clips/UNOH dragster.

“Three, 3.76 runs in a row. We did it Q4, first round and second round. This thing was a bracket car,” Millican said. “What a good race car we’ve had all weekend and I think we have our car back up under us.”

With that first round win, Millican also clinched his spot in the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship. He is currently in the seventh place position.

“This is the first time I’ve clinched my spot in the Countdown this soon. It really shows the progression of this team,” Millican said. “To do it with a couple races to go is a good thing. Now we can really concentrate on trying to push ourselves into the top five, which been our goal all year. So that’s what we’re trying to do right now because we are chasing Brittany Force and Doug Kalitta.”

In Round Two, Millican came up against Force. Millican took the win: 3.769/323.27 to 4.004/271.30. In the semifinals, Millican raced against Antron Brown. It was a close race to the end with Brown getting the win: 3.781/.060 to 3.794/318.32

Next up for the team is the Lucas Oil Nationals, August 17 – 20 in Brainerd, Minnesota.
